Constellations
"Let's go for a drink. I don't know what I'm doing here anyway. One drink. And if you never want to see me again you never have to see me again.”
Roland and Marianne are in a relationship. Or they used to be. Or they never were. Over several settings, we see multiple versions of the same scene play out as they meet, fall in love, fall out of love, meet again, and face the possibility of losing each other forever.
In the vein of ‘Groundhog Day’ and ‘Sliding Doors’, ‘Constellations’ shows how our choice of words and actions can change the course of our lives. One relationship - infinite possibilities.
“Nick Payne's gorgeous two-character drama... may be the most sophisticated date play Broadway has seen.” The New York Times
“Touching on quantum physics and the concept of multiple universes, Payne’s play remains at heart a brilliantly economical human drama, following two characters through subtly varying scenes over the course of their relationship.” Evening Standard, 50 Best Plays of the 21st Century
“This exceptional new romantic drama packs more into an hour or so than most manage in three." The Telegraph
