Creating Audio Dramas with Kate Valentine

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN ALL DAY SESSION AND WILL FINISH AROUND 5PM

This hands-on session will teach you the essentials to create an audio drama, led by industry expert Kate Valentine.

Expect to work in pairs, creating a monologue and exploring the city of York to record it on your phone. Kate, an award-winning BBC radio drama producer who co-founded multi-media production company Digital Drama, will guide you through the process of creating engaging and captivating aural works.

What will you need for the session?
We encourage you to bring a phone to record with and a laptop to edit, however, please let us know if you’d like these to be provided for you.

Kate Valentine is a director of audio drama, she’s won numerous awards for her audio-drama productions including Best Multi-Media Producer at the Audio Production Awards and Gold at the New York Festivals. Digital Drama works with theatres, arts organisations, museums and community groups to connect people through creative projects.
As a theatre director, Kate has worked across the UK at theatres including the National Theatre and Stephen Joseph, Scarborough, and Park Theatre, London. She has recently completed her MA in Theatre (by research) at the University of York, exploring the use of digital practices in community performance, for which she produced and directed INNovating, a three-part binaural audio drama set in York during the golden age of coaching.
