'Breath-taking, striking, utterly engrossing' ★★★★★ Everything Theatre
An immersive insight into hidden consequences of war.
The beaches are lovely. Remembering is crass, embarrassing and in poor taste. But to remember is to return. If we cannot return, where do we start from? Come to laugh, to cry and to feel awkward. Whatever it is, we will survive it - survival being an art. Or an embarrassment?
The Return is a devised one-woman show exploring the hidden consequences of war. The story, based on the experience of living in Croatia during the breakup of former Yugoslavia is fragmented and collaged. It unveils an aspect of family history and explores the surreal circumstances around a conflict building up and what goes into surviving it.
Combining movement, storytelling and poetry the piece explores how living through war has affected where Natasha is now.
